How thin is it?

Sometimes signs just don't make sense (click picture to enlarge if you can't see the background).

Sky path?

I've always been fascinated by jet trails, but it looks as though there is actually a path for the jet to follow in this shot - something I've never seen before. Other than a minor tweak to levels and resizing, I did nothing to this with PhotoShop. The "pathway" was quite visible to the naked eye. Has anyone ever seen this before? If so, do you know what causes it?

Day's end

After being chained to the computer all day, I drove out to Bench Road to watch the sun set. I was kind of expecting something a little more spectacular, but this is as good as it got - which still isn't all that bad.

In light of the Conservatives....

Today Steven Harper's government announced a plan to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs by 2012, I thought it would be a good day to post this pic I took one evening when I was bored.

Almost Sunset

This is in a field just a couple of blocks from my house just before sunset. From my vantage point, I couldn't shoot directly toward the sunset, so I had to shoot at an oblique angle.

Clear for landing

This is a shot from a few years ago when I was still in China. I went to this flower show and culinary exhibition in Guangzhou. Even though I had been there for a couple of years when I took this pic, it was the first time I'd ever really spent any time looking closely at the plants out there. That's when I noticed how different the flies and bees looked out there.

Double your pleasure

Other than being resized, this shot is straight out of my camera - and I didn't use a multiple exposure setting either. I was experimenting with long exposures in my office a few minutes ago and this is what I got. I think it's cool.

I was sitting on the step outside my house one day when I noticed the reflection of my neighborhood and Mt. Prevost in my car. I thought it would make an interesting shot.

Apropos

I was walking through a cemetery one evening when I happened to notice this sign in the background. How fitting. The only thing better would have been "dead end."

Droplet

I've been trying to capture droplets for the longes time, but I seem to have difficulty with them. I think this is the best I've done so far, but still a lot of room for improvement.

Relatives?

I was at the Farmers' Market one Saturday and ran into my friend Sam who was manning his biodiesel booth. Next to his stall was a person selling knitted hats. When I saw this reflection in the mirror, I couldn't help thinking how similar Sam and the mannequin head looked.

Thank you Mr. Edison

Sometimes the most ordinary things in your house can make a pretty interesting photo.

Playing with lighting

I just started playing with a light box for product shots. I built the light box with instructions from the Strobist Blog and shot this with absolutely no prepping whatsoever. I didn't even clean the lens before I shot the pic!
I have no idea what kind of flower this is, but it's about 10 times smaller than it appears in the photo. They grow kind of like moss on rocks. I got this shot at a beach in Mill Bay. I took the shot from a distance of about 2 or three inches.

Big

You had to be a fool not to notice the wonderful cloud formations we had here on April Fool's day. I caught this shot in Mill Bay, BC, looking east toward the BC Gulf Islands and Washington's San Juan Islands. There's a bit of barrel distortion from the ultra-wide angle lens, but I sitll like the shot.
